PRINCE2 is a project-management system.
Most summaries separate PRINCE2 into principles, practices and processes, then present them as three lists. That is accurate but not very useful. On a real project they operate together.
The principles shape every decision. The practices describe the management disciplines the project must maintain. The processes describe how responsibility and control move through the project lifecycle.

The seven principles
The principles are the conditions that make a project genuinely PRINCE2 rather than merely decorated with PRINCE2 terminology.
Ensure continued business justification
Keep testing whether the project remains desirable, viable and achievable.
Learn from experience
Use lessons from previous and current work instead of repeatedly paying for the same mistake.
Define roles, responsibilities and relationships
Make it clear who directs, manages, supplies, uses and assures the work.
Manage by stages
Plan and authorise the project in manageable sections rather than pretending the whole future is equally certain.
Manage by exception
Set tolerances so decisions remain at the right level and escalation happens when intervention is genuinely required.
Focus on products
Define what must be produced and the quality it must meet before organising activity around it.
Tailor to suit the project
Apply the method in proportion to the scale, risk, complexity and context of the work.
Practices and processes
The practices keep attention on the business case, organisation, plans, quality, risk, issues and progress. The processes connect those disciplines to the work of starting, directing, initiating, controlling, managing product delivery, managing stage boundaries and closing the project.
Knowing their names may help you answer a Foundation question. Understanding how they interact is what allows you to use the method in front of a sponsor, project board or delivery team.
Why applied understanding changes a career
A certificate establishes that you met the examination standard. Applied understanding changes the conversations you can lead. You can explain why governance exists, identify where a decision belongs, connect delivery to the business case and tailor control without removing accountability.
That is the difference between appearing to know a framework and being trusted to use it. Senior opportunities are awarded on the second.
