About Compalley

The commercial discipline of consulting, the structure of project management and the conviction that people create the value.

Compalley exists to help client-facing PPM practices connect how they win work, how their people grow and how the practice scales.

James J Bailey, founder of Compalley

Complex systems become useful when people can see the path through them.

James J Bailey

Nearly three decades building, governing and delivering complex work.

James is an Associate Director, senior programme and PMO leader, authorised trainer and business case practitioner. His experience spans infrastructure and construction, government property, defence and space, rail and financial services.

At First Wire, James built a global project management practice from zero to more than one hundred staff across four countries. He developed the competence frameworks, career pathways, succession plans and governance structures that enabled the practice to grow.

His work across the Government Property Agency, UK Space Agency, Network Rail, Lloyds Banking Group and other major organisations has shown the same pattern repeatedly: systems make organisations effective, but people create their value.

The Compalley point of view

A client-facing PPM practice is a commercial engine, not an administrative department.

01

Begin with the client journey

Understand how demand becomes trust, work, evidence, repeat business and referral.

02

Treat people as value creators

Make capability visible, deploy it deliberately and give strong people a future.

03

Design systems around the work

Choose processes and methods because they enable value, not because they are fashionable.

A focused conversation

If the practice is expected to grow, the operating model cannot remain implicit.
